Institute for Business Cybernetics at RWTH Aachen

We are an independent, not-for-profit, cross-industry and interdisciplinary research institute affiliated with RWTH Aachen University. Our application-focused research is conducted in two research groups – Economic & Social Cybernetics and Mobile Robotics. An interdisciplinary team of engineers, scholars from management and humanities, psychologists, and physicists, creates holistic solutions and applications for practice. All our projects consider the recursion levels of human, organization, and technology.

Focus on SMEs

We support SMEs in their research and the acquisition of public funding to foster new development. Within our research projects, we aim for research results that matter for SMEs in a usable and practice-oriented manner.

AiF Member

Linking business, science and government for practical innovations. The more than 100 member associations of the Alliance for Industry Research (AiF) stand for research and development for the benefit of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Partner in region

As an affiliated institute at RWTH Aachen University, we are in close contact with numerous institutes in and at the university. For example, we regularly work together with Institut für Technologie und Innovationsmanagement (TIM), Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA), Forschungsinsitut für Rationalisierung (FIR) and Lehrstuhl für Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM).

Interdisciplinary

Our team is made up of scientists from a wide range of disciplines. This enables us to find solutions for socio-scientific, economic and technical questions.

Networked

All research projects of the IfU take place in collaboration with companies, many of them from manufacturing industries, but often also from completely different fields such as health care, public administrations, or academic consulting.

Robot Friendly

Our research group “Mobile Robotics” develops state-of-the-art robotic systems for autonomous last-mile delivery, intralogistics, and assembly.

No robots were injured during the shooting of our videos.

Research projects

In the research groups of economic and social cybernetics, as well as mobile robotics, IfU e.V. works on interdisciplinary research topics.
