Website Institut für Unternehmenskybernetik e.V.

The research group Mobile Robotics of the Institute for Business Cybernetics (IfU) e.V. deals with the autonomy and navigation of mobile robot systems in partially and unstructured environments, as well as with adaptive stationary robots. Research topics include state estimation of mobile systems based on heterogeneous sensor data, environment mapping and localization in highly dynamic, partially and unstructured environments, mobile manipulation, and application and further development of machine learning methods in the context of mobile and stationary robot systems (image segmentation & robotic learning of e.g. (dis)assembly skills). In this context, the research group works in application-oriented research and industrial projects with numerous industrial partners.

Current research projects: Currently we are working on publicly funded research projects, which have a thematic focus on robotic systems (mobile and stationary) under development and research of Reinforcement Learning (RL) methods. Here, mobile manipulators are used in the MASON project to place dimensionally unstable products of the dairy industry in shipping containers under press fit using Reinforcement Learning. In addition, the RaCPro project is developing methods for adaptive robot systems for draping fiber composite plastics. In the intelli.line project, intelligent control methods are being developed to optimize a system control for the production of high-modulus fiber tapes.

We are looking for research assistants to support our team in the above mentioned research projects as soon as possible.

We offer:

  • The deepening of professional skills in application-oriented research with a focus on robotics and deep reinforcement learning
  • Cooperation in a highly motivated, agile and interdisciplinary team
  • Freedom of design and consideration of individual interests for personal development and shaping of the desired research content
  • Participation in the development and testing of real prototypes and demonstrators
  • Remuneration according to EG 13 TV-L

  • Very good knowledge of German and English
  • Good programming skills in Python and/or C++
  • Knowledge of the Robot Operating System (ROS) and in Linux (Ubuntu) (optional)
  • Strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Robotics, automation engineering, control engineering, machine learning
  • High degree of independence, commitment, initiative and ability to work under pressure
  • Very good analytical and conceptual skills as well as a structured way of working
  • Distinct team orientation and strong communication skills

Your Tasks:

  • Conceptual design, research and testing of methods and concepts in the context of autonomous mobile and stationary robot systems for different application areas
  • Development of prototypical robot systems in different application areas
